Creating high-quality print-ready artwork doesn't need to be complicated. If you're using Canva to design your artwork, follow the steps below to ensure your files are set up correctly for professional printing with InHouse Print & Design.
Step 1: Choose the Right Dimensions
Start your design by selecting “Custom Size” in Canva. Enter the exact final size of your product in millimetres, not pixels (e.g., 210mm x 297mm for A4).
✅ Tip: Always design at 100% scale.
Step 2: Add Bleed
Click on “File” in the top menu and check the box for “Show print bleed.” Canva will add a bleed area (usually 3mm) around your design. Make sure background colours and images extend past this line to avoid unwanted white edges.
⚠️ Important: Any element that touches the edge of your artwork must extend into the bleed.
Step 3: Keep Text & Logos Safe
Use Canva’s margin guide to keep text and important elements at least 3mm inside the trim edge. This ensures nothing essential gets accidentally trimmed.
Step 4: Use High-Quality Images
Use high-resolution (300 DPI) images to avoid pixelation in print. Avoid using low-res web images or screenshots.
📸 Pro Tip: If your design includes a logo, upload a vector (PDF, SVG, or EPS) version for sharp results.
Step 5: Export as PDF Print
When you’re done:
-
Click “Share”, then “Download.”
-
Under File Type, select “PDF Print.”
-
Tick “Crop marks and bleed.”
-
Set Colour Profile to CMYK if available (Canva Pro feature).
-
Click Download.
🎨 CMYK vs RGB: Canva designs are typically in RGB. We recommend using Canva Pro to export in CMYK for better colour accuracy in print.
Step 6: Double-Check Your File
Before sending us your file, check the following:
-
Is the file size correct?
-
Is bleed included?
-
Are all important elements within the safe zone?
-
Are images crisp and high resolution?
-
Is the final export saved as PDF Print with crop marks and bleed?
